I am coming to Heyer in the opposite way, after reading countless romances, including many Regencies. Frederica is the first book I have read by Georgette. After reading Frederica I thanked my lucky stars that Georgette Heyer was such a prolific writer and that she lived a long life. She wrote over The orphaned Frederica has arrived in London in the hopes of . If you read no other novel by Georgette Heyer, it should probably be this one.

It was so clever, brilliant, touching, entertaining and plain good FUN! It was greedy and immoral IMHO. I wonder if a man’s ardent declaration of love could be squashed by something more wonderful than restorative pork jelly.

And a really hot one at that. Sophy is unattainable; Frederica is not. Not only was it terrific natural dialogue, but it always rang true to the era, from georgetet childish lingo the boys used to the subtle cuts of the Marquis.

Alverstoke is truly a selfish man as the story begins. Don’t worry about the money. Heyer’s plucky heroines make for enjoyable reading. I get it, you don’t want to help.
I adored this book. Talk about a cut above the rest. But then another distant relation applies for his aid. It’s your dog for real???

The main characters are fab but the younger brothers are absolutely delightful. In spite of himself he just can’t tear freedrica away, and goes on having a lengthy conversation with Frederica, and then, I kid you not, they are interrupted by Felix, Jessamy and Charis, and he just sits there and chats with every body and finds that he likes them all, and as soon as he sees Charis he goes “I’m going to give THE BALL, after all!!
Alverstoke finds himself oddly intrigued by Frederica, and he decides to hold a cone-out ball for his nieces after all. Want to Read saving….

Another audio version is narrated by Kate Reading, which might suit the female roles better. He was a slacker and a major flirt and cynical And it is tragggic! It is exciting to see how inititally Alverstoke takes interest in the Merrivilles just to annoy his own family but later, as hryer as he would wish to avoid become more and more entangled with them and finally realises he does not want to be free from them at least three of themhe, he, he, he.
