Corsair Obsidian 350D Case Review
Top Reviews Most recent Top Reviews. There was a problem filtering reviews right now. I will start by saying what is packed inside my system currently: I went to Fry’s in Renton, and seeing it in person changed my mind on it: The problem were not the tubes from the radiator but the closest fit were the PCI-E 8-Pin connectors. You WILL have to bend the to the right, and as flat as they can go.
Extensions are most welcome here, since they can bend easily. Speaking of which, there are tie-down points at the bottom. It fits the case, and you are avoiding showing the cables – be them a mess or neat.
This is small, compact, and packs a punch in looks and space-efficiency. There are some filters out there but they’re sold separately. If you do mount a radiator and fans be prepared to potentially lose both of your 5. Either way your losing at least one of them. I’m ok with that but honestly it’s a bad design. There is some airflow restriction from the front due to the front cover. They do sell a honey comb cover which allows for more air, but again it’s a separate purchase. Cons for my particular case: When I peeled the protective film and masking tape from the front cover it pulled off the bottom 5.
Since I’m water cooling and not going to be using optical drives, I do need the cover to stay on. The glue holding the cover on isn’t holding as good as it should. It’s ridiculous that removing the protective film peeled it off. I’m going to ask Amazon about sending me a replacement bay cover and front cover.
I really really like the look of the case and the size. It’s the only reason i put up with its imperfections, but if the looks don’t do it for you find yourself something else. I went with it in case I 350dd to put one in the future.
But the spacing doesn’t allow you to have your cake and eat it too. This is a very impressive Micro-ATX case for the money. Up front the fan intakes are behind a removable metal front-plate with a fan-filter in between; the gap around the front panel is very large and deep which offers lots of room to draw air through, though I would still recommend pressure corasir fans to help move air through the case.
There are plenty of mounting holes for either a dual mm setup, dual mm, or single mm fans or rad. The front filter is large and easy to remove, although the mesh could be slightly better quality and the edges of mine are fraying in places just a nit-pick.
The power button and the rest of the front is all finished in brushed and anodized-black aluminum that corsaie downright fantastic. Corsair really nailed the looks on the Obsidian cases, and the D is corzair exception. The metal side panel is taken up almost entirely by an enormous window, in fact it’s really not a side panel but a window with some panel at the edges! 350f so glad Corsair didn’t add a vent on the window which can ruin the aesthetics of a case.
Inside there are many details that Corsair added which make for a great building experience. Everything is black-painted steel and feels quite sturdy. The HDD cages can be removed very 30d with a few screws and you can fit a large front rad with ease; also the sliding drive trays are very easy to use.
The bottom vent for the PSU comes with a large and sturdy filter which slides out the back of the case and clicks into place so it won’t fall out when moving or tilting the case. The rear mm fan mount has a hexagonal grill that is slightly bowed outward for increased airflow and room for mounting. The only complaint I have is that the grommets on the side of the mobo are a little thin, so routing the pin through it is a little tricky, however I was able to squeeze a USB3. The biggest complaint I have with the interior of the D is the construction of the SSD drive cages that hang under the 5.
The single unit is comprised of 3 SSD cages than clip together and as a unit attach to the bottom of the 5. I had this happen twice, so I only have one SSD tray that 350x intact clips.
You might be able to pinch the clips with needle-nose pliers, but even this could be risky.
Assembling the Corsair Obsidian D – Corsair Obsidian D Case Review
I wish Corsair made the SSD cages easier to separate or made them from a better material, although they mount to the case securely so I would just leave them all attached together 3 cages so they don’t break. Like the front of the case you can mount a dual mm or mm setup.
The top mounts come with rubber grommets for vibration isolation which is a nice touch. The pattern on the top fan grill is neat too, kind of a patchwork of parallelograms.
